What makes us overeat?

Take a little time to explore your daily habits;

What is driving you to eat badly?

What emotions make you overeat?

What is the trigger that makes you forget all those good intentions?

This is your key to permanent change. 

Allow yourself the time to ponder these questions and consider your answers. Chew them over until you feel you have discovered your true responses, not simply what you should be declaring.

Personally I know I overeat when the kids are demanding too much of me or not sleeping. I want to ‘swallow’ my stress by pushing it beneath the surface with food. The heavier the food the better!

Now I am aware of this I try to stop and breathe deeply, find my calm place and then carry on. If that doesn’t work I have a cup of herbal tea – my favourite is a mix of green tea and peppermint tea. If that doesn’t work I pop them both in the pram and go for a walk or a run. If all else fails I succumb…but that’s okay too sometimes 🙂

  1. Great advise. I think my food addiction has gone so far beyond knowing the triggers, knowing the emotions, knowing how to make permanent change. I am in the process however, chronic disease sometimes takes long hard battle to conquer.

    • You’re right, chronic disease has its own challenges. A good place to start for getting back on track with recognising your cravings is to try an elimination diet. Good luck 🙂

  2. Good post….I eat well during the day, setting a good example for the kids…..but as soon as they’re in bed I’m a demon chocolate and wino!! I joined a gym, and. I am committing to going in the evening to avoid my bad times. Its worked so far (for a week!!), but already I’m feeling less bloated just from cutting out my bad time. Let’s hope it continues…..
