Simplifying the science through cooking and education. When I'm not on Mummy duties…

A conference with a difference – BritMums Live 2013

Ordinarily I attend conferences and events that are science focussed. My favourites tend to be on functional medicine; the latest research about treating modern day diseases. While these are usually fascinating, they can be a tad dry and do all follow a similar format. So it was with a relatively low expectation I went along to what I thought was yet another conference – a bloggers event called Brit Mums Live 2013.

How wrong I was!!!

This place was buzzing with 500+ similarly minded, yet vastly different, Mumpreneurs (and a few Dad’s too). I could not have predicted the professionalism and creativity that this whole event was run with. The venue, The Brewery, was funky, the timings strictly adhered to, the topics relevant. There were workshop discussions for everyone – beginners to advanced. My favourite speakers were open and honest. Helen from Actually Mummy, Nadine from Juggle Mum and Julie from Women Unlimited were particular favourites of mine. Their willingness to be open about their business and level of knowledge was refreshing.

These ladies are all role models for women in business and in life – speak your voice and do it with integrity; there is always someone who wants to hear your opinion.

Special thanks to the lovely Gourmet Mum for insisting I go along and congratulations to her and all the other finalists and winners in the awards ceremony 🙂

Amusing quote of the day went to Kirstie Allsop when discussing her super fast time saving method of getting ready which was to wear only dresses “I’ve discovered there is nothing, apart from skiing, that you can’t do in a skirt”!
